Writing high-quality blogs for your ecommerce brand can take hours. It can be highly stressful. But there’s a better, faster way. You can use blog post templates!
Using templates is nothing new, especially in content marketing. But they act as the basis for you to get more done in less time while ensuring the output connects with your ideal customer.
You probably know you should be producing more blog content but aren’t the best writer or don’t have the time. Most ecommerce founders are passionate about their products and aren’t highly skilled writers. Nothing wrong with that.
Yet, if you know how to build blog post templates, creating blog posts for your ecommerce store becomes easier. They allow you to simplify the work involved. Here are several ideas to get you started.
#1 Listicle Post Template
If you’ve ever visited Buzzfeed, you’ll know they are mad about listicles. They produce 100s of list-based posts per week on a range of topics. Listicles are fun, easy to read, and simple to write.
Pro-tip: Always use an odd number in the title. Don’t know why but they always perform better than an even number!
Here’s a template for creating a list post:
Article Title: “16 ways to use x”
Outline what the reader will learn and why they should keep reading.
Next, write out the steps or tips. If your article title says 15 ways to clean jewellery, I want to see a list of 15 methods! Each item doesn’t need to be long or complex.
Try and find a funny way to tie everything together. A sentence or two is enough!
#2 Beginner’s Guide Post Template
We all have to start somewhere. Creating beginner guides about a topic you know well is a great way to build trust, get email sign-ups, and earn backlinks. Both help you with the end goal of driving more revenue to your ecommerce store.
Here’s a basic template you can use when writing a beginner’s guide:
Article Title: “Topic, A beginner’s guide”
Start with a story about your journey with the topic. It’ll disarm the reader and make them feel better for being at the start of their journey. If you can, explain why reading this post will help and what they’ll learn.
Keep this introduction section simple, light, and to the point.
You can’t teach the reader everything you know. But you can provide them with a short introduction to the topic that covers it in broad strokes.
When you write this section, imagine being in a lift. Can you communicate a few key points on your journey up (or down) while keeping the other person engaged?
Steps to get started
Again the purpose of this type of article is to help the reader find their feet. So keep it simple and easy to follow. Give them a taste of the topic that excites them into reading more!
We all have questions when learning about something new. An FAQ section allows you to help the reader with quick answers to the most common questions.
Use this section to wrap up what the reader has learned. Also, encourage them to go develop their knowledge further by giving them a few articles to read next. You can link to existing articles on your website and other external sites.
#3 How-to Post Template
Writing how-to posts is great for a few reasons. You help the reader achieve something. They are fairly easy keywords to rank for. Plus, they provide you with material for social media and email marketing.
The master of writing How-to articles is wikiHow. You’ll want to spend some time studying their website as it’ll help you massively when building your blog post templates!
Here’s a basic template for how-to posts:
Article Title: “How to do X”
Start by outlining what the reader will learn. “In this article, you’ll learn how to untangle your necklaces”. ” If you want to learn how to set up an AV receiver, you’re in the right place.”
Next, take the reader through the steps to solve their problem. Keep sections short. If possible, use plenty of images to show each step.
Include an FAQ section that helps the reader with short answers to common questions. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Usually, you can think up a few of these without too much effort.
Over time, you can expand this section as you talk to customers or learn more about the topic.
Sum up what the reader has learned. Sell the transformation.
#4 Product Comparison Post Template
Depending on what you sell, you should be able to write a range of product comparisons. You could compare different products in your range, allowing the customer to pick the best option for them.
Another option is to compare your brand vs a competitor. My only advice is: be honest and fair. You could sell the best product in the world, but a competitor might offer one that’s slightly better in one or two areas.
Here’s a basic A vs B product comparison template:
Article Title: “Product A vs Product B: What’s the best?”
Outline the two products. Next, explain why and how you’ll be comparing them. Finally, explain why the reader should trust you to provide an unbiased review.
Product A Overview
Briefly cover product A, and highlight what’s good and bad about it.
Product B Overview
Cover product B briefly, and highlight what’s good and bad about it.
Directly compare them
In this next section, compare the two products directly. You might find it useful to split your comparison into several areas. For example, design, feature, set-up, and performance. These sections will help the reader best evaluate the products.
Finally, pick a winner and discuss why you’ve made that decision.
#5 Expert Round-Up Post Template
If you can’t think of a post to write, why not ask a range of experts in your niche?! The expert roundup post is popular, easy to build, and effective for getting more backlinks.
You can email experts you already have a relationship with or use a service such as HARO. You need a great open-ended question that will allow you to gather different opinions.
For example, “What are the benefits of hiring an interior designer?” or “What is the healthiest fast food?”
Next, decide if you’ll write a strong introduction followed by the experts. You could, instead, take an editorial approach and try to pull out the best quotes to form the basis of your post.
As far as blog post templates go, this type of post is super simple:
Article Title: “What are the X: Y number of experts weigh in”
Outline the question you asked the experts and how you found them.
Include the quote as their email with a photo of the expert, their name, and who they work for.
It’s good to wrap things up with a short paragraph or two. You can highlight the most impactful quotes or compare different experts’ answers.
#6 Gift Guide Post Template
The last of our blog post templates is a gift guide. What’s great about these is they are dual purpose. You can advertise your own products in the guide. Don’t overboard and make it all about you, but include one or two of the items you sell.
Let’s look at a gift guide template:
Article Title: “Y (number) of gifts for X” // “This season’s best gifts for X”
Start with a story about receiving a gift you loved or buying the right one for a loved one. Or better yet, tell a story about gift-giving fails!
End with a list of the items you’ll cover in the guide.
Create a short review for each product. What do you love about it? Who would enjoy receiving it? Does it have any bad points? Finally, where to order it and the cost.
Pick your favorite and explain why! Share a few hints and tips on how to pick the ideal gift for the intended recipient. Remind them why they are searching for a gift and how it’ll make them feel when giving it to the recipient.
